Essential Oil – Atlas cedarwood

Atlas Cedarwood

(Cedrus atlantica)

Family: Pinaceae

Description: Atlas cedarwood originated from the famous biblical cedars of Lebanon. It is a tall, majestic evergreen tree that grows to more than 30 m (100 ft) and lives for more than a thousand years. The essential oil is steam-distilled from wood chips, preferably from the heartwood.

Countries of origin: Lebanon, Cyprus, Morocco, Algeria

Characteristics: Atlas cedarwood has turpentine, woody, camphorlike top notes and deep, sweet, balsamic, smoky undertones. It blends well with most other woods, and also with jasmine, black pepper, frankincense, vetiver, patchouli, rosemary and bergamot.

Main therapeutic properties: Antiseptic, anti-seborrheic, astringent,  diuretic, expectorant, insecticide, sedative.

With its familiar masculine fragrance, atlas cedarwood is the first choice for men’s skin and hair-care products. It improves oily skin, acne and dandruff. It is also good for treating urinary-tract infections, coughs and chronic bronchitis. Overall, atlas cedarwood is fortifying, calming and opening.
